Barcelona Urged to Make Move for PSG Midfielder to Improve Squad

October 27, 2023

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz has seen his name in the rumor mill. The Spaniard isn’t an undisputed starter for the French giants. As a result, he might push to leave during the January transfer window.

If Ruiz cannot be a starter at PSG, Mundo Deportivo’s Xavier Bosch believes Barcelona should pursue the 27-year-old. Furthermore, the Spanish journalist notes that the Las Liga side attempted to land Ruiz in the past but failed.

The last time the Catalan side wanted the midfielder, they were willing to offer €30 million. However, Napoli wanted €60 million. Nonetheless, the midfielder moved to PSG for €21.5 million in 2022.

“It wouldn’t be bad if Barça, which has a decent midfield, tried to incorporate him. He can play in the double pivot as well as inside, and he has a football with a glove on the left and a privileged vision for the deep pass, which the culé fans like.

“[Ruiz] could form a great tandem with [Frenkie] De Jong. He would free up the multipurpose [İlkay] Gündogan somewhat. He would get along well with Pedri, and, in addition, he is from Los Palacios and Villafranca (Seville) like Gavi. If [PSG] don’t love you, come here, Fabi.”

Ruiz has made 46 appearances for PSG in all competitions and has scored four goals while registering four assists. Additionally, he’s under contract until 2027. When the January transfer window opens in a couple of months, it will be interesting to see what players who aren’t regular starters decide to do.

Barcelona didn’t spend a lot on permanent transfers this past summer. Would they want to fork over money for Ruiz and PSG, a club they don’t have the best relationship with? If this were to occur, it would make for an intriguing saga.
