Barcelona star’s performance vs PSG could earn him a Copa America spot

April 13, 2024

Raphinha was undoubtedly one of the top performers when Barcelona secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The Brazilian international stepped up to the plate when his team needed him the most. He scored two goals on the night and ran rings around the PSG defence.

Raphinha’s performance was noticed across the globe, including in his native Brazil, where the onlookers were completely mesmerised by his display.

Copa America ticket booked?

In light of Raphinha’s exhibition against PSG, Diario SPORT reports that the forward might have already sealed a ticket for the Copa America.

That essentially means that Raphinha is likely to be selected for the Brazilian squad, which has no shortage of wingers right now.

With 22 caps, Raphinha has been a regular for the Selecao. But in light of Endrick, Antony and others’ rapid rise to prominence, the forward was always going to have to prove himself for a place in the squad this summer.

Second leg to be crucial

The job is not done yet, as far as Barcelona and Raphinha are concerned. After a stellar show in the first leg, the forward must replicate the performance in the return fixture next week.

Raphinha will indeed play a critical role in putting pressure on the PSG defence once again, with Barcelona ideally looking for another victory at home.

Given the result of the first leg, though, Raphinha may have a different role. But one thing is for sure – Brazilians will keep a close eye on his performance.

The 2024 edition of Copa America is slated to take place in the United States, starting on June 20. Everything suggests Raphinha will be a part of the team that will look to reclaim the tournament for the first time since 2019.
