Barcelona preparing record offer for Ada Hegerberg
Barcelona Femení already have the most dominant squad in world football, flexing their muscle by destroying Roma in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at Camp Nou. But La Blaugana – as they showed with their record signing of Manchester City midfielder Keira Walsh last summer, along with teammate Lucy Bronze – are never done improving.
According to a report from MARCA’s David Menayo, Barcelona would like to sign Lyon striker Ada Hegerberg this summer. They are prepared to break the transfer record set last season with their move for Walsh, and they are also ready to give her a raise from the 420,000 euros per season she makes with Lyon.
Hegeberg is a former Ballon d’Or winner and the perfect striker. In the prime of her career at the age of 27, Hegerberg is a pure goal-scorer who also excels at the “soft” skills of being a 9, such as linking up with teammates, winning headers, and even drifting wide to create when needed.
In 2017/18 at the age of 22, she scored 31 goals in D1 Arkema for Lyon. A season later, she had 20 goals with 11 assists. This season, she has barely featured due to injury, but there is no disputing her quality when on the pitch. As a striker, she is averaging over 3.5 shot-creating actions per 90 these past couple of seasons.
Barcelona have a world-class striker in Asisat Oshoala, but after Jenni Hermoso left the club, La Blaugrana seem to be after another top-notch scorer. They operate under the mentality that they can never have enough depth, as evidenced by the fact that the rest of their attack boasts a who’s who of superstars in Caroline Graham Hansen, Salma Paralluelo, Geyse, Claudia Pina, Mariona Caldentey, and Ana-Maria Crnogorčević…among others.
Let’s see if Lyon are open to selling Hegerberg, if she is open to leaving, and how much Barcelona will have to spend to sign the superstar striker. There is obviously no guarantee this transfer happens, but it is an exciting rumor to keep an eye on as the season closes and the conversation turns to transfers – and the upcoming World Cup.
