Barcelona plan to call Pique for festivities after sealing La Liga title
Barcelona are on the cusp of securing the league title for the first time in four years. With just five matches left, Barça are only two points away from leapfrogging their opponents and ensuring the league title.
In fact, Barcelona could seal the title this coming Monday at the RCDE Stadium as they take on Espanyol. Securing a victory inside the stadium of the local rivals could be an ideal way for Barcelona to celebrate the league title.
According to Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona are looking to make it even more perfect by inviting Gerard Pique to the festivities that will take place after they secure the league title.
Pique, after all, had played a role, albeit marginal, in Barça’s league campaign this term. He featured in six league matches during the first half of the campaign, leading the club from the back and guiding other defensive players such as Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.
Pique’s time at Barcelona eventually came to an end when the veteran defender suddenly announced his retirement from professional football at the end of last year. His decision came against the backdrop of growing criticisms over his performances and presence in the team.
Pique also opted to write off the dues Barcelona had, in the form of deferred payments, giving the Catalans a chance to significantly lower their salary mass.
Barça are expected to reduce their expenses further after Sergio Busquets’ decision to quit the club at the end of the season. It is quite possible that Jordi Alba may follow suit as well, as part of the club’s plan to reduce €200 million from the salary mass.
However, there is no doubt that all three of the Barcelona veterans will be present at the RCDE stadium once they secure La Liga title this weekend.
