Barcelona hoping to tie down academy prodigy until 2030 – report

September 10, 2023

FC Barcelona are well aware of their problematic economic situation and are aware that pursuing the most expensive talents in world football may not be the most sustainable route to take for the Catalan giants.

As such, Barcelona are convinced that holding onto their own developed talents will be crucial in helping the club build a sustainable project that is also capable of yielding results and success. With that in mind, the Blaugranes are convinced that retaining a certain rising 16-year-old prodigy will be key to ensuring their future success.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are planning on ensuring the continuity of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal at the club until 2030 at the very least. For now, even if this hope has not yet been penned down on a contract, Barcelona have it as an understanding with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

The most recent contractual understanding with Lamine Yamal is that an extension will be signed in the coming weeks that will see the player remain with Barcelona until 2026. As per the rulings permitted, players of Yamal’s age are now allowed to pen down contracts worth longer than three years at maximum.

Consequently, following the conclusion of the next 2024/25 season, Barcelona will look to return to the possibility of retaining the player until 2030 when he is officially 18 years of age and can legally sign a long-term contract with FC Barcelona.

The relationship between Mendes and Barcelona, particularly with Joan Laporta, has been crucial in coming to an understanding that even the player himself considers to be in his best interests moving forward in his career.

For now, the main event to consider is the signing of his latest extension until 2026, which does not have an official date as per speculation and will be dependent on the schedules of Joan Laporta, new Barcelona Sporting Director Deco, and the player’s agent himself, Jorge Mendes.
