Barcelona foreign players surprised about Xavi escaping media attacks

December 13, 2023

Coaches, just like players these days, are no strangers to scathing media attacks and criticism, as far as European football is concerned.

In the case of Xavi Hernandez, there has been no exception. However, it must be noted that the majority of the criticism has come from within the club, with players, in particular, discontent over the coach.

Foreign players surprised at the media’s treatment of Xavi
In light of this, some of the foreign players in the Barcelona squad are surprised that the media has not yet fully criticised Xavi.

The report suggests that the players believe the attack from the media has been more on the players and less on the coach.

This has come as a surprise to many, especially the foreign players. There are, after all, players like Ilkay Gundogan or Raphinha, who came from the Premier League, where managers can get fired almost instantaneously for not producing results.

Even Robert Lewandowski has had his share of managerial treatment during his time at Bayern Munich.

Ominous signs for Xavi
Regardless of what the players feel towards Xavi, it seems the Barcelona coach, too, is under severe pressure, mainly from the board.

There are reports of discontent between the board and the coaching staff, with the former not impressed with the progress Barcelona have made under Xavi.

The trust between these two parties could crack anytime, so it is imperative that the players and the coach stick together.

Tonight’s game against Royal Antwerp could be a real acid test for Xavi, as he looks to retain the trust of the Barcelona board, at least until the end of the year.
