Barcelona defender’s move to Sporting CP could be in jeopardy as Porro’s transfer is off
Reports emerged claiming that Sporting CP were inching closer to the capture of Barcelona defender Hector Bellerin on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 27-year-old had been identified as a replacement for Pedro Porro, who was thought to be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur. Talks were understood to be in advanced stages, with Bellerin himself being keen on the move after falling down the pecking order at Camp Nou.
However, the former Arsenal defender’s switch to Sporting could now be in jeopardy as Porro’s transfer to Tottenham is now off, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The reliable English journalist is claiming that Sporting CP reneged on the terms of the deal agreed upon, with the move for Porro now on the verge of collapsing.
It is further claimed that the 23-year-old Spanish right-back, who was also linked to Barcelona at one point, has been left distraught with the developments, especially after he was promised that he would be allowed to leave by Sporting president Frederico Varandas.
This development could end up having a bearing on Bellerin’s future as well, after all, the Portuguese giants were planning to sign him only as a replacement for Porro.
But with the 23-year-old defender’s move to Tottenham seemingly off the table, Sporting might decide against pressing ahead with their pursuit of Bellerin as well.
The Spanish right-back has found it tough going at Barcelona since returning to the club in the summer. Bellerin has just made seven appearances so far and even if he does not leave this month, a summer exit is a certainty, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
