Barcelona convinced to retain 21-year-old winger – report
The loss of Ousmane Dembele took its toll on Barcelona as they now face uncertainty over a potential replacement and whether it would be ideal to bring in a new recruit or rely on the players they already possess within their ranks.
The current assessments of wingers like Raphinha, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, and even young Lamine Yamal are all positive notes for Barcelona but it remains true that Dembele was the ideal winger in the eyes of coach Xavi Hernandez.
One particular player that Barcelona will now be aiming to retain within their ranks is the 21-year-old Moroccan winger Ezzalzouli Abde, who Xavi believes is now the closest alternative La Blaugrana possess in terms of replicating the overflow and dynamism of Ousmane Dembele.
As per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, there is now consensus at Barcelona regarding the stay of the Moroccan at the club to keep depth and quality sustained within the attacking options for Xavi at the club.
The 21-year-old has become hot property in recent months. His performances last season for Jagoba Arrasate’s CA Osasuna on loan were those of a grand player, as he helped them achieve qualification for Europe and also help them in going all the way to the Copa Del Ray final.
Moreover, he impressed thoroughly with Morocco’s Under 23 side at the African Cup of Nations adhering to the same age category. Morocco would end up emerging as the winners of the tournament and the Barcelona winger would have his campaign concluded by being awarded the MVP of the tournament itself.
Understandably, his contributions for both club and country in the 2022/2023 season did not end up going unnoticed. He attracted serious interest from Spain’s La Liga, the English Premier League, and even the German Bundesliga.
The only condition under which a possible transfer for the Moroccan could materialize is if a substantial offer is brought in, that is almost undeniable for FC Barcelona.
As it stands, the only real option that attracts the player’s interest is that of La Liga side Real Betis, who hope to convince La Blaugrana of letting the youngster move to the side in Seville on a loan move.
