Barcelona considering Lukas Klostermann swoop

November 4, 2023

Barcelona will reportedly look to complete a Bosman move for 27-year-old RB Leipzig utility man Lukas Klostermann next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Lukas Klostermann is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 27-year-old utility man is in the final year of his contract with RB Leipzig. So, the reigning La Liga champions are contemplating securing his services in a Bosman move in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Lukas Klostermann has established himself as one of the most underrated defenders in the Bundesliga during his stint with RB Leipzig. A graduate of the VfL Bochum youth division, the German international moved to the Red Bull Arena nearly a decade ago. Since then, he has been a regular for Die Roten Bullen.

Klostermann’s ability to play across the defensive line has made him an asset and a utility player for RB Leipzig. The 27-year-old has turned out 269 times thus far for the East German outfit, chipping in with 13 goals and 12 assists. But the player has entered the final year of his contract, which has alerted many high-profile clubs.

Barcelona will likely enter the market for a right-back in the 2024 summer transfer window if they fail to complete a permanent move for Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese international arrived at the Catalan club on loan for the 2023/24 season on Deadline Day this past summer. And he has hit the ground running in Xavi Hernandez’s team.

With Cancelo’s performance levels being impressively high, the reigning La Liga champions want to complete a permanent transfer next summer. But recent reports have claimed that negotiations over a deal for the 29-year-old are complicated. So, the move for Cancelo might not see the light of day.

Barcelona should thus scour the market for a right-back. And Lukas Klostermann has emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana. The 27-year-old German utility man’s impending free-agent status also makes him an appealing target. In addition, his ability to play across the backline is attractive.
