Aston Villa respond to Man Utd loan offer for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez
Aston Villa have ‘immediately rebuffed’ a loan offer from Manchester United to sign their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to reports.
United head coach Ruben Amorim had ‘set his sights’ on bringing the Argentina international to Old Trafford after an injury to Andre Onana.
Onana is ruled out for the start of the new Premier League season due to a torn hamstring, with Amorim keen to bring in some temporary cover.
But the Red Devils have failed in their attempt to land Martinez on a loan deal after making an approach on the weekend, the Daily Mail report.
It was previously believed that Martinez could be made available for transfer this summer due to Villa’s financial situation.
United have long been linked with a move for the 32-year-old, who is said to be keen on a move to the club and available for around £40m.
It is thought that Martinez rebuffed the chance to move to the lucrative Saudi Pro League earlier this summer.
