Arsenal handed fresh injury concern ahead of Wolves, Tottenham and Chelsea clashes
Arsenal have picked up a fresh injury concern ahead of their clashes with Wolves, Tottenham and Chelsea. The Gunners continued their good form with a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday, looking fluent and confident as they kept their hopes of winning every competition alive.
But there is no rest for the Gunners, who are back in action as soon as Wednesday night when they face Wolves, and the busy schedule does not end there.
Sunday sees Arsenal take on Tottenham in the North London derby, and the following Sunday they face Chelsea in a huge test as they look to protect their lead at the top of the table.
Those games are going to be vital in the title race, and ahead of them, Arsenal have picked up a fresh injury concern, with Ben White having been forced off during the Wigan clash. White has had injury issues already this season, so his departure from the game will be a real concern.
Speaking after the game when asked about when Riccardo Calafiori might return, Arteta said: “Him and Ben [White] are the only doubts. We have to wait and see in the next 48 hours how things develop.”
Asked about the recent build-up of injuries, Arteta added: “Yes and especially because we are going through, before it was the strikers, then it was the defenders, now it’s the midfielders but we are still coping with that but we need some players back and fit and to give us as well not only numbers but different options in relation to the opponents that we have, so the quicker they are the better.”
White has struggled to remain a starter this season, be it because of fitness or the better options Arteta has elsewhere, but Arsenal will be hoping the England international is available for those Tottenham and Chelsea games, in particular, and the same will apply for Calafiori, who likely has an even bigger role to play in the back-line.
The Italian has had his fair share of injury issues since arriving in North London, but he has still made a sizable impact when he has played.
