Ange Postecoglou delivers surprise response as Tottenham overtake Aston Villa in Champions League race

April 8, 2024

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has responded to seeing his side move above Aston Villa and into fourth place in the Premier League, in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 on Sunday to climb above Villa, who drew 3-3 with Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday. The two teams are locked together on 60 points in fourth and fifth place respectively, with Tottenham having a game in hand on Unai Emery’s side.

Speaking after Tottenham’s win over Forest, Postecoglou said: “I couldn’t care less about the race for fourth. What I care about is the way the team is progressing.

“Pleased with today. It had a little bit of everything. We started the game well, not just the goal, I thought we controlled the game well.

“Then we conceded from a counter attack which was obviously disappointing. I thought we lost our way a little bit towards the back end of that first half but a super reaction and the whole second half we were really dominant.”
