Mainz chief confirms imminent move for Batz

May 4, 2026

Following reports that Daniel Batz is set to join Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of the season, Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert has confirmed that the veteran goalkeeper has accepted an offer from another club.

Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert has confirmed that Daniel Batz has decided to leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

With reports suggesting that Batz is set to join Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bungert confirmed after Mainz’s 2-1 win over St. Pauli on Sunday that the 35-year-old is looking to move on.

“That’s correct. We held talks with him. A few days ago, he informed us that he had received an offer from another club and would like to accept it. At 35, I believe it’s a very good contract for him,” Bungert told Sky.

Batz has made 26 appearances this season while deputising for Robin Zentner, who has been sidelined for a big part of the campaign.

He joined Mainz from Saarbrücken in 2023.
