Former La Liga winner reacts to Bayern starlet’s Real Madrid dream – ‘You have to earn it’
Former Real Madrid midfielder Gunter Netzer has shared his thoughts on recent comments made by Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl, who openly admitted that playing for Real Madrid is his ultimate ambition.
Karl, just 17 years old, has been attracting attention with his rapid rise at Bayern Munich.
Despite being at one of the biggest clubs in world football, the teenager did not hide his long-term dream.
Speaking about his future goals, the young midfielder made it clear that while he respects Bayern, his heart is set on Madrid.
“Bayern is a very, very big club. It’s a dream to play there. But at some point, I definitely want to go to Real Madrid,” he said.
The teenager then went on to underline just how highly he rates the Spanish giants, while also showing gratitude towards his current club environment.
“That’s my dream club. Of course, Bayern is something very special, and it’s a lot of fun at the club,” he added.
Those words quickly travelled across Europe and eventually reached someone who knows both German football and Real Madrid better than most.
Gunter Netzer, the first German player to ever represent Real Madrid, was asked to give his opinion on Karl’s comments and, more importantly, on when the right time would be for such a move.
Netzer’s response was rooted in his own experience at the club. Rather than focusing on age or potential, he highlighted what truly matters when it comes to earning a place at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“You have to earn your place at Real Madrid. It’s not age that determines it, but your previous performance at your club.
“A player has to prove his worth to Real Madrid,” he noted.
