Arne Slot got something ‘completely wrong’ against Fulham which he must never try ever again for Liverpool

April 7, 2025

Liverpool’s unbeaten run away from home in the Premier League came to a stark end on Sunday after a 3-2 loss away to Fulham.

The Reds were outplayed by the Cottagers in the English capital as three goals in a 14-minute spell saw Fulham secure all three points and put a stop to Liverpool’s unbeaten streak in the Premier League, with the Reds last tasting defeat in September.

With Paul Scholes slamming Virgil van Dijk’s performance for Liverpool on the day, it was a game to forget for numerous players, with the Reds simply not at their best at Craven Cottage against a Fulham side who were up for the occasion.

And for Arne Slot, the performance and the result highlighted one major issue with the Dutchman’s tactics at Craven Cottage that the former Feyenoord manager cannot repeat in upcoming Premier League games for Liverpool.

Curtis Jones right-back experiment needs to end ASAP
Curtis Jones was back at right-back having started in the position for Liverpool against Everton and giving a decent account for himself despite how conservative the Toffees were in the attack against the Reds at Anfield.

Gary Neville had pointed out that Jones at right-back could one day lead to problems against teams who knew how to push forward, and the Manchester United legend was proven right in a big way this weekend with Liverpool’s trip to Fulham.

Indeed, Steve Nicol labelled Slot’s decision to play Jones at right-back as ‘completely wrong’ as the England international was torn to pieces by the Cottagers in west London, with the Liverpool academy graduate eventually shifted back into midfield after Conor Bradley’s introduction.

And with Bradley one of Liverpool’s few bright sparks against Fulham despite playing for just over 30 minutes, Slot already has a good excuse to take Jones out of the right-back position and to put a natural player back in the role for this weekend’s tie against West Ham, where all three points are needed.
