Hull City star sends stark Birmingham City warning as Tigers face huge battle

November 25, 2024

The Tigers have returned to the bottom three after a few weeks away

Cody Drameh says Hull City cannot afford to be naïve about their increasingly perilous situation, which sees them perched inside the Championship relegation zone.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Luton Town left City mired inside the bottom three with the Hatters leapfrogging them and away from trouble, whilst inflicting a third straight loss on the Tigers.

The result eased the pressure on Town’s Rob Edwards, while ramping up the focus on Tim Walter, who was again jeered off by the away supporters at Kenilworth Road, and remain steadfast in their belief that the German should be sacked by owner Acun Ilicali.

Though Walter remains relaxed about City’s current plight, Drameh says the players cannot afford to take anything for granted, and having experienced a surprise relegation at Birmingham City last season, the former Leeds United defender has issued a stark warning ahead of Tuesday night’s huge Yorkshire derby against rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the MKM Stadium.

“Definitely (understand fans’ frustrations). For me, I was relegated last season with Birmingham. It’s very, very like similar, you know, so I think we just can’t be naïve and saying like it can’t continue like this. We’ve got to go again, we’ve got to try and stick together as a team, be together with the gaffer and all the players as well and just try to look back at what we could have done better and try to go again against Sheffield Wednesday.”

A seventh loss of the campaign leaves the Tigers 22nd in the league, a point from safety after 16 games of the 46-game campaign. Drameh admits as it stands, City have got themselves embroiled in a battle, and with just one win at home so far this season, must starting making the most of the groundswell of support at the MKM Stadium.
