Raphaël Varane could imminently announce retirement
Le Parisien understands that Raphaël Varane (31) could announce his retirement from professional football in the coming hours.
Varane has been blighted by injuries in recent years, and as a result he retired from international duty at the age of just 29 in February 2023. However, despite decreasing his workload, injuries have remained frequent. The Frenchman left Manchester United upon the expiry of his contract this summer, joining newly promoted Serie A side Como on a free transfer.
Since joining Cesc Fabregas’ side, he has made just one appearance, in the Italian Cup. He has already suffered a severe knee injury whilst at Como, which has seen him ruled out for several months. As a result, Varane was excluded from Como’s Serie A squad.
Le Parisien now understands that the world Champion with France in 2018 is set to retire from football and the announcement could come later on Wednesday.
