Bayern Munich receive MLS inquiry for German star
Bayern Munich are not actively looking for new players in the final week of the transfer window, but they remain keen on selling a couple of their senior players. Leon Goretzka is the hot topic in Bavaria regarding a transfer, as Bayern told him that he will not be a key player under Vincent Kompany.
Despite being left out of the squad for last weekend’s DFB Pokal game against SSV Ulm, Goretzka is not keen on giving up on his time in Munich. The German midfielder is ready to fight for a place in the starting XI. Irrespective of Goretzka’s desire to stay in Munich, there will be interest in the German midfielder during the next seven days.
MLS side Charlotte FC inquired about Leon Goretzka. However, the German midfielder quickly rebuffed interest from MLS as he is keen to compete for silverware in Europe. Goretzka wants to play in the Champions League. The move to MLS may come further down in his career.
Bayern have actively looked to sell Goretzka, but there has been next to no interest from big European clubs in the German midfielder this summer. Napoli were loosely linked with Goretzka, while Atletico Madrid also held an interest in him. The Italian club is looking to sign Scottish midfielders Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay, while Atletico Madrid has signed Connor Gallagher from Chelsea.
Bayern will integrate Goretzka into the squad if transfer doesn’t materialize
There is a significant chance of Goretzka staying at Bayern next season. Die Roten will not keep him in the stands next season if a transfer doesn’t materialize in the next seven days. He will be integrated into the squad and given opportunities on the pitch. However, there is no certainty that Goretzka will get adequate playing time at Bayern this season.
Joao Palhinha will eventually first choice option for the number six role in the team, while Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Konrad Laimer are contenders for the other midfield spot. Goretzka is behind four midfielders in the pecking order.
The German international may have to reconsider his stance of staying in Munich when the transfer window opens in January. Bayern may facilitate a departure for a smaller fee since they want to get Goretzka off their wage bill. He is reportedly earning close to €17 million/year at Bayern.
Goretzka was not expected to get adequate playing time at Bayern last season, but he managed to break into Tuchel’s plans over the campaign. The German midfielder ended up with over 3000 minutes of game time, chipping in with 17 goal contributions across all competitions. Never say never, maybe Goretzka will find a way to impress Kompany and get adequate game time.
