Pundit says Kalvin Phillips should avoid going on loan to one Premier League club at all costs
Darren Bent has claimed that Kalvin Phillips should not go on loan to one particular Premier League club in the summer.
Manchester City will be working diligently behind the scenes to ensure the players who are not in their immediate plans are sent out on loan.
Several City players of all ages were on loan during the 2023/2024 season, from Joao Cancelo, 30 to Callum Doyle, 20.
Darren Bent says KA should avoid one loan move
On Wednesday, it was reported that Everton are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips on loan.
The former Leeds United midfielder’s loan stint at West Ham United was disappointing but he might have the chance to showcase his quality at another Premier League club.
However, Darren Bent believes Kalvin Phillips should avoid a loan move to Everton at all costs.
Bent said: “I think that’s the last thing he needs. Yeah, I do. I am not saying because it’s Everton. He needs to go somewhere permanently. He went to West Ham on loan and it couldn’t have gone any worse for him. He has now played himself out of the England internationals. At one stage, he was probably a starter you would say under Gareth Southgate.”
“I know Sean Dyche will work miracles for him but I almost feel like Dele Alli has been there, hasn’t really played much for I don’t know how long. Kalvin Phillips needs to go somewhere.”
Instead of heading to Everton on loan, Darren Bent feels a permanent transfer to Leeds would do Kalvin Phillips a world of good.
“I think he would have gone back to Leeds. I know they didn’t go up. Go back, settle somewhere, get a permanent transfer and then start to rebuild. Again, he is unsettled, he is on loan again, if it doesn’t go [well], where does he go from there? I am not sure about this one.”
Kalvin Phillips would be tempted by Everton loan move
In our view, it seems unlikely that Kalvin Phillips would turn down the chance to sign for Everton on loan — regardless of the potential pitfalls laid out by Darren Bent.
At the end of the day, the opportunity to continue playing Premier League football would tempt Phillips.
The 28-year-old would perhaps be reluctant to return to his boyhood club Leeds as they failed to gain promotion from the Championship.
The opportunity to work under Sean Dyche, whose defensive-minded setup could get the best out of the Englishman may also appeal to him.
