How PSG Can Strategically Move for AC Milan Sensation This Summer, per Expert

April 29, 2024

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has a couple of matches left to fully convince people that he’s the No. 1 goalkeeper. If the Italian doesn’t show the qualities to be the starter, one expert notes what PSG can do to resolve the issue.

A few days ago, a report from Gazzetta Dello Sport revealed that PSG are observing the situations of Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan at AC Milan. The Ligue 1 side is probably on standby to raid the Italian club with two prominent talents.

Hernandez is locked in with a contract until 2026, and Maignan shares a similar deal with the Serie A side, also extending until 2026.

CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Johnson points out that Nuno Mendes and Lucas Hernandez are currently occupying the left-back position, which could deter any interest in pursuing Milan’s Hernandez. However, the situation seems different with Maignan.

Johnson notes a manner in which PSG can maneuver this summer transfer window to ensure that they bring Maignan back to Paris.

“The one who I would go for, and I go for 10 times out of 10 from Milan, is Maignan,” Johnson told PSG Talk in an exclusive interview. “I don’t think you’d be able to do a deal potentially exchanging Donnaruma to send him back to Milan, given the way that he left.

“But I think if you can cash in on Donnaruma and potentially propose an interesting offer to Milan for Maignan, then I think you bring him in.

“I think Maignan, obviously, a PSG Youth Academy graduate, but also France’s international No. 1 now, a fantastic all-around goalkeeper, and somebody who I believe would be a better fit for Luis Enrique’s vision for PSG in terms of being comfortable with the ball at his feet.”

Maignan has made 42 appearances for AC Milan this season across all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets.
