Bayern Munich prez Herbert Hainer dishes on hunt for new coach

April 26, 2024

Bayern Munich is looking to make a decision soon.

In an interview with Tz journalists Mano Bonke and Philipp Kessler (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer addressed the club’s coaching situation.

“We made it clear what our plan was — that the coach (Tuchel) would stay until the end of the season. That gives us enough time to look for a successor. But it doesn’t go well to ask questions after every game: Will the coach still be there? What would happen if you lost to Arsenal? Until the end of the season, the team, together with Thomas Tuchel, should give everything to get as far as possible in the Champions League. And if there’s a decision on the coaching question, the club will comment on it,” said Hainer.

Hainer also touched on Bayern Munich failing to lure Xabi Alonso away from Bayer Leverkusen.

“Xabi Alonso would be good for any club in the world. But I wasn’t disappointed because he never said he was leaving Leverkusen. Now it is claimed that Xabi Alonso has rejected FC Bayern. He only announced that he was fulfilling his contract in Leverkusen,” said Hainer. “We need a coach for FC Bayern who suits us and who is ready to meet the high standards we expect of ourselves. That’s the most important thing.”
