EXCLUSIVE: SOON TO BE BUNDESLIGA RECORD BREAKER STILL HAS EYES ON PREMIER LEAGUE MOVE
The Guinea star has been one of the most potent strikers in Europe with 24 goals to his name in the Bundesliga this term – only surpassed by Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.
Guirassy was strongly linked with a January move and was open to the idea of making the New Year switch, and as HITC revealed, a host of clubs looked at a deal – including Arsenal and Chelsea who considered a deal given he was available via clause in his contract that allows him to leave for just £15million.
The 28-year-old turned down fresh terms ahead of the January window and it remains to be seen if he can be persuaded to put pen-to-paper before the summer window.
Stuttgart hopeful Guirassy will stay
Stuttgart’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth remains hopeful Guirassy will remain.
“In the last two transfer periods, it was the case that almost everyone was ready for him to leave but he stayed both times,” he told Sky DE.
Wohlgemuth admitted that securing a Champions League place could be key to their hopes, adding: “It’s a piece of the puzzle for players to decide for or against us.”
Guirassy did not move in January, but his clause becomes active again this summer and HITC is told that the Premier League interest has remained since the turn of the year and that the player is ‘ready to make the move’ but is fully concentrated on a good end to the season with Stuttgart.
HITC is told that Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and West Ham United have all watched Guirassy in action in recent months. There is also interest from Italy and Spain.
Indeed, a number of those clubs were present to watch him score the winner at Borussia Dortmund at the weekend – which fired Stuttgart into third and puts them firmly in Champions League contention.
Proud of equaling Mario Gomez record
It also meant that Guirassy levelled the club record of Mario Gomez and he is now ready to surpass that.
“I am proud to have caught up with a legend like Mario. All that’s left is to surpass him,” he said on his Instagram.
HITC is told that Stuttgart are working hard to try and persuade Guirassy to sign a new deal.
His current contract runs to 2026 but they are also hoping they can remove or increase that release clause.
