Real Madrid summer 2024 signing says ‘he wants to become an idol’ figure

April 8, 2024

Endrick made the headlines when he scored twice in four days at Wembley and Santiago Bernabeu for the Brazilian National team in the recent international break.

Returning to Palmeiras, the 17-year-old phenom has only scripted more history.

Starting for Palmeiras in the second leg of the Paulista Serie A1 final, he helped the team overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to win the title. He was, in fact, named man of the match on the night.

At just 17 years of age, he now has won his fifth career trophy, including two Brasileiro Serie A titles, one Supercopa do Brazil, and two Campeonato Paulistas.

Endrick talks after the win
Speaking to the media after his man-of-the-match performance, the 17-year-old sensation gave his two cents on being a role model for others and why it was complicated in his situation.

“I know that being an idol for all Brazilians is impossible because there are people who don’t like me.”

He then emphasised that he does dream of being someone young and upcoming footballers can look up to, saying,

“But I think that, for all the kids starting their careers, I want to be their idol. I want to be someone they look at & think: ‘If he achieved that, I also can’.”

An asset for the first team
Endrick will arrive at Real Madrid in the coming summer but will not find breaking into the first team easy.

After all, he will be competing with Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo Goes, and Kylian Mbappe for a starting spot, giving Carlo Ancelotti a real headache over how to optimally use the attacking resources.

Thus, one option considered was loaning out the Palmeiras star until December 2024 or sending him to the subsidiary team for minutes.

As revealed earlier this week, however, both options are off the table. Los Blancos see Endrick as a player for the first team, and the first team only.
