LECCE SET TO SACK MANAGER ROBERTO D’AVERSA AFTER HEADBUTT TO VERONA’S THOMAS HENRY

March 11, 2024

In dramatic series of events in the Serie A, Lecce are set to sack manager Roberto D’Aversa after he headbutted Verona striker Thomas Henry yesterday.

Verona had picked up a 1-0 win over D’Aversa’s Lecce because of Michael Folorunsho’s goal, but Henry was sent off late in the game. In a scuffle towards the conclusion of the game, a footage showed D’Aversa headbutting the striker and he later stated admitted to doing that.

Lecce had stated that they are not happy with D’Aversa’s actions and have now confirmed that the Italian has been sacked. These turn of events are rather drastic but are rather expected, considering the manager’s actions.

D’Aversa posted on social media that he is sorry and he apologised for his actions, while also apologising to Henry himself for what he did. He also branded his actions as ‘sad’ and ‘unpleasant’ and stated that his actions were unsportsmanlike as well.
