Barcelona forward out for 4-5 weeks after thigh injury vs Osasuna, will miss Napoli clash

February 1, 2024

Barcelona forward Ferran Torres barely lasted four minutes against Osasuna after having picked an unfortunate hamstring injury and if a report from Javi Miguel is to be believed, the Spaniard has been ruled out of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg tie against Napoli.

Last night, the former Manchester City winger hurt himself while chasing the ball. Immediately after the incident, he touched the back of his right thigh, fell to the ground, and Xavi looked surprised.

Eventually, Torres, crying, had to leave the field in place of Fermin Lopez.

Torres out for four to five weeks

The test carried out in the aftermath of the event showed that the player has a tear in the thigh muscle of his right leg. This injury will keep him out of action for four to five weeks and he won’t be able to play in the first leg against Napoli in the Champions League.

Initially, there were concerns about a more serious injury to the tendon, which could have ended his season. Fortunately, further tests ruled out this possibility, and it is expected that he will recover in about a month.

As a result, Torres will miss at least six games against Alaves, Granada, Celta, Getafe, Athletic Club in La Liga, and one Champions League game against Napoli. If all goes well, he could return to play against Mallorca on March 9.

Following Torres’ injury, Barcelona now have as many as nine players who are nursing their respective problems, namely Gavi, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marcos Alonso, Raphinha, Alejandro Balde, Inigo Martinez, Joao Felix, and Sergi Roberto.

For what it is worth, Martinez is likely to be the first to come back, and he’s expected to play this Saturday against Alaves.
