Robertson could follow path of other Man City youth talents
Manchester City have had several young talents find success elsewhere, including Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer, and it could suit all parties if Everton were to make a move for Robertson.
Everton need extra quality in midfield, and there is limited depth beyond Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Garner and Amadou Onana.
A summer move does look more likely for Robertson, and it is unclear what kind of fee would be required to land him, but if Robertson can earn regular minutes at Everton, he could quickly develop into a very strong option.
He could also follow the example of Garner, who was a top prospect for Manchester United before a successful loan spell at Nottingham Forest earned him a move to Everton.
Garner is now performing well at Goodison Park, and is continuing to develop into a strong long-term option.
Signing outstanding young talent with some senior experience under their belt would be a good strategy for Everton to help replace the ageing players within the squad and prepare for the future.
Robertson could arrive as a talented depth option who could quickly develop into a key player, and if he performs well, like Lavia at Southampton, his value would rapidly rise.
