Barcelona identify USA or Mexico as possible venues for friendly later this year

As reported earlier this week, Barcelona are considering playing a friendly fixture sometime before the Christmas break.

Given the club’s iffy financial situation any revenue is welcome and the Catalan giants are hoping to arrange a friendly either in November or December to bring in some cash into the club’s coffers.

USA, Mexico possible options to host friendly
Building on that news, Mundo Deportivo is further reporting that Barcelona have narrowed in on the USA and Mexico as possible options to host the friendly match.

The idea is to play the friendly which can be beneficial for the club financially and the two aforementioned locations have proven successful in the past.

Barcelona men’s senior team have toured the USA for pre-season this year and last year while the club’s Femeni outfit travelled to Mexico two play a couple of friendlies recently.

The idea of a friendly originated in the club’s economic and commercial department and has reached the sporting team and the locker room, with the possibility of a friendly now gaining weight.

Tight schedule makes things tricky
While Barcelona are eager to play the friendly to generate some revenue boost, the tight fixture schedule makes things difficult to find a window for one.

Among the options being considered is playing the game right after the upcoming international break this month, although some players could end up missing the match.

The idea of arranging the match right after the last La Liga game before the Christmas break next month is also being discussed.

Much work remains to be done and possible opponents also need to identified and it remains to be seen if the idea does come into fruition or not.
