Barcelona’s biggest priority for January is to register 18-year-old Brazilian wonderkid

October 7, 2023

Barcelona secured the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense during the summer transfer window but delayed his arrival until 2024.

The Catalans signed the teenager in a deal worth €30 million plus another €31 million in variables, with a long-term contract until the 2030/31 season.

However, Financial Fair Play issues dictated that they would find his registration difficult during the summer and as such, his incorporation was pushed to January 2024.

Barcelona’s greatest priority for January
And now, according to Mundo Deportivo, even though Barcelona would like to sign a new player or two during the January transfer window, their greatest priority at this point is to register Vitor Roque with La Liga.

The recent injury to Robert Lewandowski has exposed the lack of natural No. 9s in the squad and even though the Pole is expected to be back next month, Barça wish to have some added cover in the centre-forward department for the future.

As such, they see Roque’s incorporation in January as their main objective and are working towards ensuring his registration goes through without any hitches.

For that to happen, though, the La Liga champions need some financial injection and they are still awaiting €40 million payment from German fund Libero, while also looking at other avenues to bring in the revenue.

Either way, at this point, Barcelona’s singular focus for January is to incorporate and register Vitor Roque, even though they would like to sign a new pivot midfielder.
