Salih Özcan confirms Galatasaray offer but rules out move away from Borussia Dortmund

August 25, 2023

Salih Özcan is not thinking about leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer despite receiving an offer from Turkish club Galatasaray.

We are entering the home stretch of the summer transfer window, and clubs are finalising their squads for the 2023/24 season. Salih Özcan is attracting the interest of Galatasaray. And the defensive midfielder has now revealed that the Turkish club made an offer for his signature.

Despite Galatasaray’s interest, Özcan is only focused on Borussia Dortmund at the moment. The 25 year old is determined to stay with the Black and Yellows and fight for his place. In an interview with Sky Sport, Özcan said:

“The offer definitely came because my agent was called. It’s a very, very big club. But I’m fully focused on the season here and I still have three years left on my contract. What the future brings, we’ll see, but like I said, I’m very happy here at the moment and my focus remains with Borussia Dortmund.”

Salih Özcan joined Borussia Dortmund from FC Köln last summer for a cut-price fee of around six million euros. After an encouraging start to life at BVB, the Turkey international lost his spot in the starting XI to Emre Can and was only used sporadically.

Özcan made a total of 36 appearances in his debut season with Borussia Dortmund. He said last month that he was satisfied with his season overall, but added that he wants to improve his game in the final third.

Edin Terzic has not used Özcan in the opening two games of the season. And it will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets this year with the likes of Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha all ahead of him in the pecking order.
