BAYERN MUNICH WANT TO AVOID LOSING BENJAMIN PAVARD ON A FREE TRANSFER

July 31, 2023

Bayern Munich do not want history to repeat itself and wants to avoid a situation similar to David Alaba with Benjamin Pavard.

Pavard’s contract at Bayern expires next summer and the club does not want to lose him on a free transfer, similar to David Alaba when the defender moved to Real Madrid in 2021. Clubs have shown an initial interest in Pavard, but no concrete offers have arrived yet. Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have all shown interest in the 27-year-old.

If Pavard cannot be sold this summer then a contract extension for the defender cannot be ruled out meaning Bayern would be able to still sell the defender for a fee. However, the 27-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave the club this summer. The defender has a preference to play in his favoured centre-back role, but most teams are interested in him playing as a right-back.

A contract extension for Pavard is independent of if Bayern sign Manchester City defender Kyle Walker.

VfL Wolfsburg again begin the new season at home to a promoted side.
