Nathan Collins and Dara O’Shea set for Premier League transfers ahead of new season

June 22, 2023

The Irish duo will be playing in the Premier League next season.
Nathan Collins and Dara O’Shea are set to be playing in the Premier League next season.

The Republic of Ireland duo are the subject of transfer bids from Brentford and Burnley respectively. Collins’ move to Brentford is likely to be a record Irish transfer fee.

O’Shea, meanwhile, is set to join newly-promoted Burnley from West Bromwich Albion.

Nathan Collins: Brentford in talks for Ireland defender.
Brentford are keen to sign Collins, 22, from Wolves this summer and have already had a bid of £21m rejected, according to the Daily Mail.

The Bees, however, are expected to return with a £25m offer, which could be enough to land the central defender.

Wolves signed Collins from Burnley last summer for £20.5m, a record fee for an Irish player.

The defender was a regular for the first half of the season. From January onwards, however, Craig Dawson was preferred ahead of the Kildare native.

Wolves still rate Collins highly but must sell players before they can make any new signings. They would also make a profit on the Irish defender.

Brentford are established Premier League side under Thomas Frank, and finished ninth last season, four places ahead of Wolves.

Collins has earned 14 caps for Ireland and scored two goals.

Dara O’Shea: Burnley set to sign Irish defender.
Burnley, meanwhile, have agreed on a transfer with West Brom for Dara O’Shea, according to the Athletic. The transfer fee has yet to be disclosed.

O’Shea is due to have a medical on Thursday before joining Vincent Kompany’s team ahead of the new Premier League season.

Burnley won the EFL Championship in dominant fashion last season, earning 101 points.

O’Shea, who joined West Brom from Dublin schoolboy side St. Kevin’s Boys in 2016, has played 107 times for the Baggies, including 28 appearances in the Premier League.

The club do not want to sell him but are financially hamstrung as they won’t receive parachute payments from the Premier League for the upcoming season. O’Shea captained the club last season.

The 24-year-old, who has earned 19 caps for Kenny’s team, will join fellow Ireland internationals Josh Cullen and Michael Obafemi at Turf Moor.
