Manchester United’s remaining Premier League fixtures compared with Newcastle and top four rivals

Manchester United tightened their grip on a top four berth with a 2-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Anthony Martial put United ahead just past the half hour mark, turning the ball home from close range, before the returning Alejandro Garnacho made the points safe in stoppage time. He had earlier stepped off the bench to make his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury two months ago.

United were the better side for long spells of the contest and really ought to have been out of sight before Garnacho settled proceedings in the closing stages. Nevertheless, they did enough to get the job done, halting their two-game losing run in the process.

The victory means United have reopened a four-point gap on fifth-placed Liverpool and moved level on points with third-placed Newcastle United, who dropped points at Leeds United in the lunchtime kick-off, drawing 2-2. It means United’s destiny this season remains in their own hands with just three games left to play.
