Star who single-handedly destroyed Man Utd could come back to haunt Ten Hag as West Ham given another chance to land goalscorer

April 27, 2023

Manchester United may have to come up against a striker who ruined their Europa League hopes again next season as West Ham have been handed another opportunity to sign him, according to reports.

Man Utd confirmed their place in the Europa League knockout stage by finishing second in Group E, behind Real Sociedad. They subsequently beat Barcelona and Real Betis to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side failed to make the last four as they were knocked out by Sevilla. Man Utd went 2-0 up in the first leg but were ultimately held to a 2-2 draw after late own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire.

And things went from bad to worse in the second leg as Man Utd gifted Sevilla two goals, with the La Liga side emerging victorious with a 3-0 win at home.

David de Gea played Maguire into trouble in just the eighth minute and that allowed striker Youssef En-Nesyri to capitalise, as he finished into the bottom corner.

Loic Bade doubled Sevilla’s lead early in the second half by rising tall from a corner and heading over De Gea.

And Man Utd’s night was summed up when De Gea failed to control a long ball, allowing En-Nesyri to finish from 30-35 yards out.

The Red Devils will not want to come up against En-Nesyri again after his brace downed their European ambitions, although that may just happen next season.

West Ham might go back in for La Liga ace
West Ham have long been interested in the centre-forward, but they have not been able to reach an agreement for him. That might change this summer though as Football Espana claim Sevilla director of football Monchi will put En-Nesyri up for sale.

Sevilla are not in the strongest position financially and could do with letting one or two big names leave to balance the books. Monchi is hopeful En-Nesyri’s goals against Man Utd will make him a target for other clubs, West Ham in particular.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that ‘nothing is happening’ around the Moroccan just yet. The journalist added that En-Nesyri was ‘close’ to joining West Ham previously, although other English teams are not in the picture.

West Ham are not prioritising a raid for En-Nesyri right now, but that will change if Gianluca Scamacca leaves. The 24-year-old has had a disappointing first season at the London Stadium and is currently weighing up whether he made the right move.

Inter Milan and AC Milan are both keeping tabs on Scamacca. And if he does head back to Italy by joining one of those two Serie A giants, then David Moyes will reignite his interest in En-Nesyri as a potential successor up front.
