Nottingham Forest-linked Sheraldo Beckers ends long wait for a goal

April 6, 2023

Sheraldo Becker was linked with Nottingham Forest in January and on Saturday he ended a run of 11 games without a goal for Union Berlin.

The former teammate of Taiwo Awoniyi was targeted by the Reds; with Everton and West Ham also making checks on the 28-year-old speed demon.

Becker is actually enjoying a good campaign still. He’s bagged nine goals and registered seven assists but of late he had dried up in terms of goal contributions.

It was reported last month, that Forest still want Becker. Bild made that claim, with other Premier League clubs also monitoring his situation.

Becker wouldn’t cost the earth either. It was claimed last month that around £13 million would have been enough to land the player during that particular transfer window.

The talented forward typically operates as a number 10 or through the middle as a striker. Forest were in the market for forwards at the turn of the year but went with other options instead.

On Saturday, the relief was etched all over Becker’s face. He opened the scoring for Union Berlin in the 51st minute as they defeated VfB Stuttgart 3-0.

At 28, Becker should be in his prime. As a result, the forward might fancy swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League in the summer.

Whether Forest return to compete for his signature remains to be seen. First, they will certainly have to remain in the top flight.

Becker was clearly delighted to get back among the goals. It’s been a long wait for a strike, with his last one in the Bundesliga coming before the World Cup.

Union Berlin are enjoying a wonderful campaign. They currently sit third in the table and are well on course for a crack at the Champions League next season.

With that in mind, Premier League clubs might have to dig deep to convince Becker of a move during the summer.
