Milan’s Plans for La Maura Stadium Likely to Collapse
Milan are continuing to face an uphill battle in their quest to build their new stadium in the La Maura area of the city and the project now looks likely to collapse.
La Repubblica Milano details how the number of city councillors against the plans to build the new stadium on the site of the racetrack is continuing to rise, going from 20 to 31, setting up an almost impossible challenge for the Rossoneri.
Local residents and politicians have continued to resist the idea, despite the fact that Milan have not even presented the details of their planned project for La Maura yet.
Rino Pruiti, the mayor of Buccinasco and president of the park’s mayors, explained why the stadium couldn’t be built in Parco Sud when speaking to Il Foglio.
“The Parco Sud simply, by law, cannot allow anything to be built on its territory that is not the recovery of the existing or the development of the agricultural park.
“Let me explain: at La Maura they want to make a horse track? No problem. They want to make more stables? Ditto. They want to put a tennis court there? Well, there’s a problem.
“And if there is a problem for a tennis court, imagine for a stadium for 60,000 people. No, impossible. And in fact, no one has asked us in the Park for anything.
“Not least because if they did, the question would probably stop at protocol, not even be considered by the board. Can that law can be circumvented?
“Not unless the Lombardy Region changes the regional law on parks. Moreover, they are already putting us under commissioner status, so even if a request came in, we could do nothing more than reply that we are in ordinary administration.”
Milan originally planned to work with Inter to build a new stadium in the San Siro area of the city, demolishing the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to make space, but this project has already collapsed, with the two clubs now working separately to find their new homes.
