“I have doubts” – Everton would ‘not offer more than’ €12m for signing, scout unconvinced

March 17, 2023

Everton have doubts over spending big on signing Montpellier’s Elye Wahi, according to L’Equipe.

The 20-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side’s youth team in 2018 and was promoted to their senior team in 2020. Since the start of last season, he’s managed 20 goals and four assists, out of which 10 goals and two assists have come from this season.

Marseille asked about the striker in the winter market but cooled their interest after the French club requested €30m.

L’Equipe’s state it’s difficult to assess Wahi’s valuation, while Michel Rablat, Everton’s head of recruitment in France, believes he’s not worth more than €12m.

He is valued at €18m by Transfermarkt.

An unnamed scout probing the French market on behalf of a big English club claims the player needs to take the next step in his career.

The scout also believes Montpellier ‘would even be right’ by claiming as much as €35m including bonuses for the France U21 international. Meanwhile, the Toffees official has a different take on his asking price.

“I have doubts about the fact that he can erase his faults later,” Rablat said.

Rablat isn’t sure whether the player is made for the highest level, which is why L’Equipe state Everton would ‘not offer more than’ €12m for the transfer.
