Tottenham set to unleash Champions League winning star on Sheffield United

February 27, 2023

It’s another huge week of football at Sheffield United this week as attentions turn to the FA Cup 5th round clash with Tottenham on Wednesday.

United go into the game off the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Watford. Spurs, meanwhile, come into the game in fine form themselves. In the absence of Antonio Conte, Tottenham have won four of their last five in the Premier League, including a comfortable 2-0 win over Chelsea this weekend.

Of course, Blades fans are under no illusions as to how tough a game it will be. Tottenham are riddled with quality throughout the squad.

Spurs are set to give Ivan Perisic the chance to show his class against Sheffield United.

The Croatian hasn’t quite had the desired impact since signing in the summer. However, the 34-year-old remains a class act on his day. Having won the Champions League, been in a World Cup final, and starring for Croatia in Qatar, Perisic will be keen to impose himself at The Lane.

For Sheffield United, it could be a case of trying to keep him quiet. Jayden Bogle is likely to start at right wing-back and will face the biggest challenge of his young career so far.

While United’s main focus remains the league there’s a lot to be said for a good cup run keeping momentum. And a win over a team like Tottenham could well breed confidence around the place.

However, it will be a huge ask to try and win. Ivan Perisic is just one name among many who are class acts. Harry Kane is world class, while Heung-Min Son and Richarlison aren’t bad either. Factor in Dejan Kulusevski and then World Cup winning defender Cristian Romero, and the Blades’ task is obvious.

It will be a good clash under the lights, though. United beat Tottenham comfortably last time out in front of an empty Bramall Lane.

How the players would love a repeat in front of a packed house this time around.
