Messi tipped for FIFA Best award
Lionel Messi is widely favoured to win the FIFA Best award on Monday with Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema also nominated.
The glittering ceremony will be held in Paris on Monday, 27 February.
MESSI HAS WON IT ALL
Messi lifted World Cup glory last year when he helped inspire Argentina past defending champions France. That game lived up to the hype as a battle between Messi and his PSG teammate, Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe scored a hat-trick and won the Golden Ball after edging Messi by one in the goal tally.
French forward Karim Benzema missed out on the World Cup due to injury.
Messi has already won the Ballon d’Or seven times and claimed the FIFA award – which started in 2016 when FIFA and France Football went their separate ways – only once. That was in 2019.
The Argentine playmaker is likely to win his second trophy with votes cast by the captain, coach and journalist from each country.
Messi has scored 16 goals and provided 14 assists in just 27 appearances across all competitions for PSG. He scored a stunning 95th-minute free-kick in PSG’s last-gasp 4-3 win over Lille last weekend.
