Bundesliga wonderkid dreams of playing for Barcelona, but summer operation impossible
Of the many talents that are bursting through the ranks in Bundesliga, Florian Wirtz is someone that has generated a lot of excitement.
The 19-year-old versatile attacking midfielder has been a revelation at Bayer Leverkusen, although a serious knee injury stalled his development for a while.
Since coming back from the injury this season, Wirtz has played seven matches in all competitions, bagging one goal and setting up three more for his teammates.
Wirtz is a player who is being followed by some of the top clubs across Europe.
But, according to SPORT, the 19-year-old Bundesliga wonderkid dreams of playing for Barcelona someday in the future.
Wirtz has previously admitted to being a fan of former Barcelona captain and club legend Lionel Messi. And it is now being claimed that the teenage sensation has the dream of representing the Blaugrana one day.
“I always want to be the best. As a kid, I dreamt of playing for Barcelona. That has not changed, but it can wait,” he had said back in 2021.
The report adds that Barça are aware of this, but cannot do anything about it at least in the upcoming summer.
Given the club’s financial situation, any big-money move in the summer window is totally off the cards. And hence, any operation for Wirtz, who has a contract with Leverkusen until 2027, is considered impossible within the Camp Nou offices.
However, Barcelona see Wirtz’s dream as an opportunity for the club to recruit him somewhere down the line in the future.
