Liverpool transfers: Micah Richards raves about what ‘class’ Jude Bellingham did in the Champions League last night

February 16, 2023

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards was blown away by the performance of Liverpool target Jude Bellingham last night.

Bellingham captained his Borussia Dortmund team to a Champions League last-16 win over Chelsea at Signal Iduna Park. The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes of the 1-0 win, and speaking to CBS Sports Golazo after the game, Richards didn’t hold back in his praise.

“He’s a class act isn’t he, we’ve been talking about him for years now. He mentioned in his interview there about [being] the captain and everything, he’s just class,” gushed the pundit.

“Whether he’s in a defensive role, an attacking role, his effect on the game, his game intelligence, he’s just got it all. I think big things for his future ahead.”

Bellingham drives home why Liverpool need him
You always find yourself wondering if Bellingham will live up to billing on a big occasion like this. Inevitably, the England international nearly always delivers.

Up against midfield man-of-the-moment Enzo Fernandez last night, Bellingham looked a cut above.

If Chelsea’s World Cup-winner is worth £106m, then you have to wonder how high the figures could end up going for Jude. He’s simply in a different class. No wonder Liverpool want him so badly.

At just nineteen he’s already the key man for a pretty huge club. Captaining Borussia Dortmund whilst still in his teenage years is something that marks him out as something truly special.

Yes, the more senior Marco Reus and Mats Hummels weren’t available last night. But Edin Terzic still had plenty of experience out on the pitch.

Emre Can for example has fully 10 years on Bellingham and has played for a number of the biggest clubs in world football. Niklas Sule is another who has plenty in the bank at the top-level.

Overlooking those two though, Terzic knew that Bellingham was the right man to lead his team into such a big game.

These Champions League nights are where stars are truly born. It isn’t a surprise to see Bellingham bossing it on the big stage, but it doesn’t make it any less impressive. Get him to Anfield!
