LAZIO’S LUIS ALBERTO: ‘SERIE A HASN’T EVOLVED MUCH’

February 10, 2023

Luis Alberto revealed he was ‘not having a good time’ at Lazio when Cadiz made an approach and explained why he thinks Serie A ‘hasn’t evolved much’.

The 30-year-old Spaniard began to slip down the pecking order in the Italian capital this season, often starting games on the bench in the first half of the season. After a tough few months, Luis Alberto began to mend his relationship with Sarri and has since become a Lazio regular again.

Speaking to journalist Benni Arroyo on Twitch.tv, Luis Alberto first detailed why Serie A has started to fall behind in Europe.

“It’s a league that hasn’t evolved much. In Italy we play a lot with three-man defences, with man marking.

“Napoli, Lazio, Sassuolo and Fiorentina are the only four teams that play a European style of football. Juve’s football is a bit different. Juventus’ point deduction? No comment.”

He touched on how it is working with Sarri in Rome.

“We have the video room. We watch films almost every day, they’re all long, and every now and then your eyes drop. The habits have changed compared to Simone Inzaghi.”

Finally, Luis Alberto discussed the recent approach from Cadiz and how he wants to eventually end his time with Lazio.

“I was not having a good time when I got the news that they wanted me. I really appreciated Cadiz’s interest, but in January it’s not easy. I don’t want to end things badly with Lazio. When I leave, I’ll talk to the president, the sporting director and the coach with whom I have a great relationship.

“I owe almost everything to Lazio. The club and the fans love me. It would be stupid to break off badly with them. Until the last day I’ll give everything for Lazio, trying to get the team into the Champions League.”

Contracted to Lazio until June 2025, Luis Alberto has scored five goals and provided four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season.
