Real Madrid the only La Liga club that can sign Haaland or Mbappe, claims Javier Tebas

February 2, 2023

Real Madrid have been one of the few clubs in the world, who have been in contention to sign both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in recent memory.

The Spanish champions were close to completing the capture of Mbappe during the summer, before the striker eventually opted to extend his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Haaland has been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu as well, especially when his release clause at Manchester City becomes applicable in 2024.

Amid all the talk going around the future of these two individuals, La Liga president Javier Tebas has recently commented on Real Madrid’s spending ability, suggesting that they are the only Spanish club who are in a position to land either Mbappe or Haaland.

“If Haaland and Mbappé ever came to Spain, only Real Madrid will be able to sign them,” said Tebas on El Chiringuito.

Tebas’ comments come at a time when Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has hinted at the forward’s potential move to Barcelona by praising the club president Joan Laporta.

However, the Catalans are not in contention to sign the Norwegian anytime soon due to the financial implication of the pursuit. Even Real Madrid could find it difficult to conjure up the youngster’s reported release clause worth €200 million that will be applicable in 2024.

As for Mbappe, discontent between him and the PSG board was reported earlier in the season. But those speculations have since died down and it appears matters could be resolved if PSG end up sanctioning the sale of Neymar in the coming summer.

Real Madrid, therefore, are not likely to sign either Mbappe or Haaland in 2023. They are, instead, focusing on their priority target in Jude Bellingham, who could be available at the end of the season, albeit at a premium.
