Hector Bellerin keen on joining Real Betis

January 28, 2023

Hector Bellerin is keen to join Real Betis in the summer, as Xavi Hernandez no longer needs him at Barcelona.

Hector Bellerin is considering his future at Barcelona and remains keen on re-joining Real Betis. Xavi Hernandez does not rate the former Arsenal full-back and could allow a departure as the Spaniard does not fit into his plans this season.

Hector Bellerin was a late arrival at Camp Nou last summer as Barcelona signed him on a free transfer. Had the Blaugrana secured Cesar Azpilicueta, they might not have considered the former Arsenal star. But Bellerin had negotiated a contract termination with the Gunners and joined Barcelona on deadline day.

Despite arriving on a free transfer, Bellerin and fellow Spaniard Marcos Alonso only signed one-year deals. Barcelona had suggested they would offer extensions in due course basis of individual performance-related conditions. And they have already extended Alonso’s contract. But Bellerin will see his deal run out in the summer.

Xavi Hernandez does not trust Bellerin in his plans, having used Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, and even Sergi Roberto in games. The Barcelona defender wants regular game time and is already considering his options.

While his contract expires in the summer, Barcelona could let him leave for free. Bellerin had interest from Premier League clubs and even reportedly rejected a move to Everton. English clubs could yet showcase admiration before the deadline, so they remain an option.

Bellerin is keen to re-join Real Betis, where he played last season. Due to financial conditions, the club could not re-sign him in the summer, and there are doubts about whether they have space in the current setup. While they could remain interested in the Barcelona defender, a sale or two might help the right-back return.

Moreover, Manuel Pellegrini has shifted Youssouf Sabaly to left-back. So Real Betis certainly have room for a new right-back. Hence, Bellerin becomes an option if they can sign him on a free transfer. More importantly, they may have to sell before freeing up wage space in the team.

As for his Barcelona career, Bellerin can consider that over, as Xavi is unlikely to use him much this season. There were hopes, but his application and intensity needed to match what the manager wanted from his players. Real Betis would be a good option, although if a move does not transpire, England could become a possibility again.
