“Still open” – Fabrizio Romano details Leeds United chances of landing third January transfer

January 11, 2023

Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi is a big talking-point this January, as his World Cup performances have yielded transfer interest from Leeds United and others.

A left-back and a striker was the remit for Victor Orta heading into this transfer window, and he is halfway to completing those tasks, with Max Wöber plugging the defensive gap.

The striker deal could be completed soon but then there might be scope for Leeds to push for a midfield signing too, having overseen the exit of Mateusz Klich recently.

Angers star Azzedine Ounahi is a major topic of conversation at the moment after his World Cup exploits with Morocco, leading to concrete interest from Leeds and others.

A bid has been tabled by Leeds according to Ryan Taylor (as well as Leeds All Over sources) that amounts to £17.5million, while Napoli are believed to be keen on the midfielder too.

Such interest has now been backed up by Fabrizio Romano too, who reports of Leeds and the Serie A leaders being the front-runners in this race:

Ounahi would be a great signing for Leeds, knowing what he’s capable of offering, but I just wonder whether he’s the right signing now.

We know Ounahi would be able to progress the ball very well in this system, but is his World Cup performance an outlier in terms of effort levels?

It was a once-in-a-lifetime tournament for Morocco and players leave everything on the pitch, the same naturally cannot be said of club football usually.
