AC Milan 2-2 Roma: Three Things We Learned
AC Milan and Roma played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in yet another example of Italian football’s recent resurgence.
The drive for success in Italy’s top tier often leads to some fantastic games of football – especially this season. So then, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that AC Milan and Roma played out an absolute belter on Sunday night.
The two clubs went to war in a thrilling encounter and when the final whistle had blown, we were left with a 2-2 scoreline.
Today, we’re going to talk about the three biggest takeaways from yet another classic San Siro night.
Milan lose ground
AC Milan had the game in the palm of their hands and, really, let their foot off the gas. That’s a forgivable mistake to make from time to time but in a match of this magnitude, it’s a really big step backwards for them. The champions knew how important a win here was going to be and now, they are seven points off the pace and have dropped down into third, highlighting how this really is a game of inches.
Roma’s resurgence
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the brilliance of Tammy Abraham? The Englishman was on fine form for Roma after returning to the starting XI and scored a dramatic last minute equaliser to salvage a point for his side. The first goal, to begin the comeback, came in the 87th minute. Many criticise Jose Mourinho but if this proved anything, it’s that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank.
Serie A fascination
Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio, Roma. That is the current top six in Serie A and if that doesn’t get your motor running, nothing will. It may sound a bit played out for us to keep saying it but the quality on display this season is phenomenal. There’s drama pretty much everywhere to be found and although some may think the races are already somewhat decided, there’s still a long, long way to go.
