22-year-old Barcelona stands a chance of being a part of the first team next season

December 28, 2023

Julian Araujo has endured a rather curious start to his life at Barcelona. After being unable to play for the team during the second half of last season, the youngster was sent out on a loan deal in the summer.

Araujo joined Las Palmas on a season-long loan deal, in order to receive regular game-time and a chance to prove himself in La Liga.

Xavi views Araujo’s loan spell positively
As we reach the halfway point of the campaign, it is safe to say that Julian Araujo has done a good job at Las Palmas.

According to Adrian Sanchez, Xavi Hernandez and his coaching staff views Araujo’s performances at Las Palmas quite positively.

The 22-year-old Mexican international, after all, has become a first-team regular for the Canary Islanders. He has featured in 18 competitive appearances, racking up two goals in the process.

Araujo has impressed onlookers with his ability to provide width going forward, which is coupled with his athleticism on the flanks.

Will Araujo be a part of Barcelona team next season?

Adrian Sanchez further points out that there is a possibility of Julian Araujo becoming a part of the Barcelona first team next season.

That is because Xavi has been left impressed by his performances at Las Palmas. Not to mention, the club may require a new right-back next season, amid the uncertain future of players such as Sergi Roberto.

Even if Joao Cancelo is signed permanently, Roberto’s expiring contract means Barcelona would be left without a backup right-back.

Julian Araujo, therefore, may have a chance of fighting for his place in the squad next season, even if Barcelona end up retaining Joao Cancelo.
